At this point in time, in our society, we have an exaggerated and unrealistic expectation of avoiding "mistakes" and becoming a success. Rather than striving for enhanced and improved measures, we suffer the delusion of human perfection-which does not exist. This insanity, consistently pursuing perfection, is driving us to a point of dysfunction and leads to a complete sense of immobilization, the inability to act.

The signs of perfectionism are obvious even though they are often overlooked, denied, and avoided. The obsession of needing to know every detail, the need to be absolutely correct, passing judgment on your deficiencies, are all products of an imaginary world of existence. Perfectionists always assume one choice is better than another. This persistent compulsion to compare is a never ending process.

Fear lurks behind perfectionism; the fear that I may not measure up, the fear of being wrong, the fear of disapproval, and the fear of failure. The hallmark of perfectionism is the avoidance of responsibility. After all, this process leads to the imaginary consequences the perfectionist dreads. They do not want to be held accountable for potentially driving their life off the road.

There is an antidote to perfectionism that the perfectionist is unaware of. Choice equals perfection in that, every choice has perfect consequences-good or bad. No one is immune to this reality, perfectionist or not. That being what it is, we can then begin to gain a new perspective. That is to see decision-making-or choices-as "preferences" rather than perfectionism. One person's preference might be another person's dread, and visa-versa.

So, release yourself from your man-made prison of perfectionism. You have been your own jailer. Perfectionism is an illusion your mind has created. Seeing that reality is the transformation required to living a, "normal", life.

Remember this, "You are a perfectly unique individual whose perfection lies in being yourself."
