There was a great lady Healer, who was summoned to the place where people of broken spirits and broken hearts resided. This is a home for those who have experienced crisis and tragedy, and who were barely hanging on. The Healer was asked to intervene in their broken lives, to inspire them to move beyond their current world of pain and misery, to live a life of joy and purpose, once more.

The residents of the home were gathered together in a room with comfortable cushioned chairs and sofas, and they awaited the entrance of the “Great Healer”. The healer entered the room and took a seat in a straight-back wooden chair and sat with her hands folded on her lap. Greetings were exchanged, and then the dialogue began.

“Madame Healer, can you help us understand our lack of confidence and our overwhelming reluctance to move on with our lives?” asked one of the residents

Madame Healer responded, “You are all imprisoned by the misery you know or are familiar with—which seems to you to be more acceptable than the projection of the misery associated with the unknown—with taking a risk to step through your misery. You are suffering the illusion and assumption of, that knowing—knowing that the known is easier and safer than the unknown.”

“But Madame Healer, we are all traumatized and paralyzed by our circumstances. Surely you understand our plight?”

The Healer responded, “The trauma and paralysis you experience can be either permanent or temporary, depending on whether or not you have courage. The moment you exercise the courage to take “A Leap of Faith” your action becomes the catalyst to your recovery. You must learn to trust and believe that your inner knowing (your personal wisdom) is guiding you toward your greater good. The question you are required to ask yourself is this; Are you willing to self-execute a “Leap of Faith” without any guarantees that it will do any good? Are you ready to take a step into the unknown?”

“Are you suggesting, Madame Healer, that our fate in these matters comes down to stepping over the cliff?”

“I submit that there is no cliff—you are the nexus of your own abyss, any action you take is more like climbing the steps of a ladder up and out of that abyss. The risk, I contend, is one of your own imagination which stems from the fear of the unknown.”

“So are we to understand then, Madam Healer, that we hold in our hands the fate of our own security and future?”

“What you are currently holding onto is insecurity and past events that lead to this moment, wouldn’t you agree. Absent of the past—absent of insecurity—your situation is transformed is it not? A “Leap of Faith” suggests moving into what isn’t known so renewal can occur. There is security that comes with knowing that you alone are the captain of your life and journey—to have faith and confidence in your own ability to look out for your own best interests.”

“Thank you Madam Healer, for your insights have been illuminating and wise and they will serve us well in confronting this moment in time in our lives.”
