He was known to all as the, Sage of the City, whose understanding of the workings of the city was unmatched. Anyone who was new to the city was persuaded to pay a visit to the City Sage. Living in the city required one to first meet with the sage to see if they met with the prerequisite for living in the city. The prerequisite was to be currently experiencing some sort of personal adversity, some kind of difficulty, or perhaps some type of trouble or misfortune. The reason for this became clear to anyone who met with the sage.

It is usually the people who are struggling with adversity who seem more willing and ready to make personal and unique discoveries about themselves. The sage shared his three step approach with them to facilitate these discoveries and to assist them on their path to resolution.

The first step is capacity, which is the ability and determination to endure the adversity as well as the commitment they had to follow on the path to self-awareness. Capacity is the measure of individual potential, faculty and capability, one's personal dimensions, amplitude, range and limits, one's scope, expanse, and self-sufficiency. In other words, "What are they capable of?", and "What do they individually bring to bear?" to resolving their own adversity?

The second step is authenticity, which are the personal traits, such as natural talents, genuineness, sense of reality and personal truth. Now, between the two-capacity and authenticity-they have personalized their inventory of both what they bring to bear, as well as how they, with all their specific tools, will approach their adversity.

The third step is simplicity, which is the ease of resolution, specific and unique to each of us. Like a light shining into a dark room, it illuminates and reveals the nature and the essence of adversity, making the resolution rather obvious.

Knowing these things, the citizens of the city could proceed with integrity and confidence of their discovery and resolution. The three steps of capacity, authenticity, and simplicity make them true citizens of "the city". They are enlightened and can be better participants in the life of the city dwellers.
